Results of the 2004 Lyle Leeke Tournament
At Old Channel Trail Golf Course
Montague, Michigan Montague, Michigan In a dramatic playoff finish, Bill Benedict and Steve Miller birdied their way to victory over Ken Taylor and Ryan Mouw in the Championship Flight of the 2004 Lyle Leeke Tournament at Old Channel Trail Golf Course. Both teams scored 101 in regulation and played a sudden death playoff on the practice holes, finishing with a 3 on the first practice hole at the course, which is a par 4.
In the First Flight, Matt Kolbe and Randy Brummel came out on top with a total of 107, followed Jordan Cullen and Scott Sikkenga with 108. The Second Flight was led by the father/son team of Chuck and David Reinhardt with a 114, followed by Chad Peterson and Ross Finlan with a 117.
This 27-hole tournament is a unique format, offering two-man teams the chance to play all 27 holes at the course. The first nine holes are played as a two-person best ball format on the Woods nine; the second nine holes, on the Meadow nine, are played as a scramble; and the third nine on the Valley is played as a select drive / alternate shot format. Teams are flighted after the first nine holes of scoring.
“This is an endurance test as well as a test of golf skills,” said Old Channel Trail’s Director of Golf Chris Cullen. “It’s always a fun event. Teams have to use some strategy in shot selection that can make the difference in the end.”
Fifty players participated in this years event, named for the Lyle Leeke, late husband of Meriam and father of Bill Leeke, Old Channel Trail Golf Course owners.
